How much does a GA4 setup cost in 2026?

By Motabar Javaid · · 5 min read

Short answer: A basic GA4 setup for a small business usually costs around $250 to $350 with a freelancer. A proper audit and repair that covers GA4, Google Tag Manager and your ad platforms typically runs $750 to $1,200. Projects that add server side tracking, a data warehouse or custom dashboards start around $2,000. Server side tracking also has a small monthly hosting bill on top.

Those are my own prices, so take them as one data point. But they're in line with what most independent specialists charge, and the rest of this post explains what actually drives the number up or down, so you can judge any quote you get.

Typical price ranges

What you get Typical price Timeline
Basic GA4 setup: property, tag, core events, key events, documentation $250 to $350 A few days
GA4 audit and repair for one site $400 to $700 3 to 7 business days
Full audit across GA4, GTM, Google Ads, Meta and CRM, with dashboards $750 to $1,200 1 to 2 weeks
Server side tracking, data warehouse, advanced attribution $2,000 to $4,000 2 to 4 weeks

You'll also find much cheaper gigs on freelance marketplaces, and much more expensive agency quotes, often bundled with a monthly retainer. Both can be the right choice. The important thing is knowing what's included.

What changes the price

How many sites, domains and properties

One website with one GA4 property is the simplest case. A main site, a separate checkout or booking domain, a web app and a few country sites each add work, especially once cross domain tracking is involved.

Ecommerce or lead generation

Ecommerce tracking means every step from product view to purchase needs the right events and parameters, including item details, values and transaction IDs. Lead generation usually means fewer events, but connecting form submissions, calls and bookings to your CRM can take just as long.

Starting from scratch or fixing something broken

A clean new setup is often quicker than repairing an old one. Fixing a messy Tag Manager container means first working out what every tag does, what's duplicated, and what the business still relies on.

Ad platforms and CRM

Each platform that needs conversions sent to it adds work: Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, HubSpot, Salesforce. Making sure they all count the same conversions in a way you can compare is where a lot of the value is.

Consent Mode

If you have visitors from the EEA or UK and advertise with Google, Consent Mode v2 needs to work with your cookie banner. Getting it right, and testing that tags behave correctly with and without consent, is part of a proper setup.

Server side tracking

Moving tracking server side means setting up and testing a server container, Meta's Conversions API with deduplication, and Google's Enhanced Conversions. It's usually the biggest single jump in price. See my server side tracking setup page for what that involves.

Reporting

GA4 on its own gets you data. Dashboards that combine ad spend, GA4 and CRM revenue in one place, often through BigQuery and Looker Studio, are a separate piece of work but often where decisions actually get made. The single source of truth case study shows what that looks like in practice.

The ongoing costs people forget

  1. Server side hosting. A server container has to run somewhere. Managed hosts have free or low cost plans for smaller sites, while Google's own recommended production setup on Google Cloud has historically come to roughly $100 or more a month. Costs grow with traffic.
  2. BigQuery. The GA4 export is free to switch on, and storage and queries for a small site often stay within or close to the free tier. Heavy dashboards on large data sets cost more.
  3. Maintenance. Site redesigns, new forms, new checkout steps and new ad platforms all need tracking updates. Budget a little time for this every few months, or a small maintenance plan.

What cheap setups usually miss

A low price isn't automatically a bad deal, but these are the things I most often find missing when I audit a setup someone paid very little for:

  1. Key events aren't marked, or the wrong events are, so GA4 and Google Ads optimise toward the wrong goals.
  2. Purchases are counted twice, because the event fires again on a thank you page refresh and there's no transaction ID to deduplicate it.
  3. Data retention is left at 2 months, which limits what you can analyse later.
  4. No cross domain tracking, so checkouts and booking tools break the journey.
  5. Payment providers aren't excluded as referrals, so PayPal and Stripe take the credit for sales.
  6. No Consent Mode, or one that blocks the tag from loading at all.
  7. No documentation, so nobody knows how anything works six months later.

If you already have a setup and aren't sure whether it has these problems, the free GA4 health check is a good place to start.

How to compare quotes

Ask each person quoting you:

  1. Exactly which events and key events will be tracked?
  2. Will Google Ads and Meta conversions be set up and checked against GA4?
  3. How will you test it, and how will I know it's working?
  4. Is Consent Mode included?
  5. What documentation do I get at the end?
  6. What happens if something breaks after handover?

The quote with clear answers to all six is usually the better deal, whatever the price.
